Swap Meet
Well, we will never cease to be amazed. EMRIG had another swap meet on Saturday the 30th January 2015, and yet again, it was a stunning success. The members thought that due to it being the beginning of the year and everyone’s pockets either a bit tight after the holidays or a bit full with train purchases for Christmas that there would not be many buyers. Well, were we surprised!
We only received news from all the sellers that it had again gone really well.
Unfortunately no photos this time as previous posts have been flooded with photos. However, the one at the top right! This poor boy saw John Burkhardt’s Thomas the tank engine going round and round. He was just fascinated and literally stood as he is in the photo for nearly two hours. His mother (in the background) tried to leave with him on a number of occasions. Eventually grandma had to come down and try help. It was only after the swap meet when John and everyone were breaking down, did he eventually relinquish his position and very begrudgingly leave with his mom and grandma. We wonder if he will be chairman in 20+ years or so.
Next swap meet is on the 30th May! Diarise it now!
AGM
More importantly, the following day, the club had its AGM at Colin TT’s residence with a bring and braai scheduled for immediately afterwards. Again what an attendance and a resounding success. The guys from EMRIG certainly like to socialise AND talk trains J.
The proceedings started at 11h00 with the AGM. Colin TT opened up with his report which was certainly warming. More on the report will be published in the club newsletter which will be out in the next few days. Progress with the premises is looking good with more than enough space. As Colin put it, 1000m^2 of space!!! There were a substantial number of items discussed around the premises with allowing other nomadic clubs to come and set up for a while. Lots and lots still to come.
The proceedings then moved to the finances which are also looking quite healthy. Theuns Wessels gave us a rundown of the expenses and Income. He also announced that the club had 41 paid up members of which 17 were new members during the year of 2014! All present, were in awe.
There were further discussions around other general items with the meeting culminating in the re-election of committee.
All existing committee members stood down to allow new blood in. The existing committee members with the exception of Theuns Wessels said they were available for re-election if no one wanted to take up the position. In the end, the committee was re-elected as is, with Geoff Kingsburgh being elected into the position of treasurer. A new position on the committee was also created, that of Web Master.
So, the committee stands as follows: –
Chairman: Colin Tanner-Tremaine
Treasurer: Geoff Kingsburgh
Secretary: Peter Fish
Newsletter: Kevin Chamberlain
Web master: Glynn Chamberlain
Thereafter, the festivities began. The fires were lit, the drinks were opened and everyone had a truly wonderful time. A fantastic ending to an excellent weekend.
