ngg_shortcode_0_placeholderOn the 11th and 12th of October, EMRIG was invited, and participated, in the N Gauge guild of South Africa’s 20th anniversary event, “The Great Model Train Expo”.<\/p>\n

The event was a huge success in all respects and the winner at the end off the day was the hobby of Model trains. With ten club layouts on display and many dealers and shop owners in attendance, the visitors had much to see and enjoy. All proceeds went to support the worthy cause – \u201cCansa\u201d and it was not long before we were told that the organisers overheads had been met and all further funds collected was going to the afore mentioned charity.<\/p>\n

With some trepidations before hand, the event went down beyond all expectations. The EMRIG team had the time of their life, running trains, talking to fellow hobbiests and visitors as well as visiting fellow clubs and retailers.<\/p>\n

The weekend started with a number of the members meeting at the club to pack all the modules and equipment. This was done on a large flat bed trailer, as well as a car with a Venter trailer. The team made it to the site 30 minutes before the heavens opened up and the rain came down. Fortunately, everything was inside the classroom by then and in the process of being set up. Within an hour, both the n gauge and HO layout were up and running.<\/p>\n

ngg_shortcode_1_placeholderSaturday started with much excitement and the crowds continuously streamed through the classroom. Fortunately, there were 6 EMRIG members which allowed for some of us to visit the other attractions on show while the others ran trains for the visitors. Next to us was the Marklin group with a layout that was super detailed and had many visitors. In the main hall was Pretoria Model Train Club<\/a>, the N Gauge Guild<\/a>, the Hornby group as well as sellers like Dick the tree man, John Burkhard with his Digitrax and also Craigs trains<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a separate hall behind the main hall, there was the Gauteng Freemo Group<\/a>, Model train exchange, Hobbies and models, as well as others. One of the stunning displays was by the Cape Gauge Club<\/a>\u00a0who modelled\u00a0South African Railways in 12mm HOn3.5 scale. There were Garrets that just simply took one back to yester year and were so prototypical.<\/p>\n

Sunday 16h00 came along all too quickly and an amazing weekend came to an end. The crew took down the modules and returned them to the clubhouse. Fortunately without looming thunderstorms or rain. To say every one was exhausted is an understatement, but boy did we all have fun.<\/p>\n
